No Red Light

From Pasay Road corner EDSA in Makati to Welcome Rotunda in Quezon City, my regular route has been through EDSA, fly over to Osmena Highway, Nagtahan, then Espana up to Welcome.  If there isn't heavy traffic, that's a 30-minute ride.  The challenge is how to get from start to finish without a single stop.  That means not getting stuck in non-moving traffic, not getting caught by the red traffic light, without violating any traffic regulation.  By the way, that would mean getting the green light in 15 intersections with traffic lights.

Over the past two years, I was able to do just that once.  I had to take a couple of detours to escape heavy traffic and a red light.  And then, smart driving and lots of luck.  Another time, I got stuck on the traffic light in Fajardo street along A. Lacson.  Tonight, I got stuck on two traffic lights for the whole trip, on the corner of Pres. Quirino and Jesus St, and then on Lacson/Loyola St.

I wonder if others play the same game.  Players need a good pair of eyes to see upcoming traffic lights from far off distances, the math skills to know you don't need to use the brakes but just have to let go of the gas from those far off distances, the patience to drive slow enough at times to just arrive at intersections on the go signals, and to drive fast enough not to get caught by the stop signals, and having the road map in memory.  And most important, luck level 5 (or 10, depending on the scale).

The prize, you get to your destination the soonest, while saving the most gas on the way.
